The recording stages for our first EP commenced in early 2014 at my home studio in the Adelaide Hills. It is entirely self produced by myself. Initially, it was relatively simple to conceive the songs and lay down the recordings, however the mixing stages were the most time consuming and stressful.
The opening track Felicity came together relatively quickly with regards to the song structure. It's one of the more rock based tracks on the EP.
The second track Hey There had a more drawn out production. I felt like I treasured this track more than any of the others, and as a result tended to be more pedantic about it's mix. We had four different string parts recorded on it, by Alyssa Bird, our bassist Ben Rate, and my very own father.
Overly Political, the third track was co written by Nick Powell and I. This track was a problem for a long time as the initial demos didn't feel strong enough in terms of the instrumentation. Fortunately after bulking up the guitar section a more grittier feel was established.
The Conformist is the oldest track on the EP, written in early 2o13 when I was 15. Thus, production took about year and a half.
Finally, Minor Chords completes the EP. Featuring our own Ben Rate on Cello. This too was written at a similar time to The Conformist.
